MPW Steakhouse Restaurant Shire Hall Durham

Location: Shire Hall, Hotel Indigo, Durham

Project Date: October 2016

Project: Marco Pierre White, Steakhouse Bar & Grill Restaurant

Luci Living Design was delighted to work on designs for the transformation of the Old Shire Hall in Old Elvet, Durham into a £15m four-star boutique hotel. We designed on behalf of our client Elvet Developments Ltd, this magnificent Marco Pierre White Steakhouse and Grill restaurant, with 100-covers on the ground floor of the building. The now newly opened Hotel Indigo houses 83 bedrooms, the Steakhouse restaurant, Rotunda bar and coffee house. The Hotel, a Grade II listed building and the stunning restaurant venue, a former debating chamber boast a wealth of period features such as the tiled marble staircases, wood panelling, plaster work, ornate tiled floors and stained-glass windows and impressive original brass light fittings. We designed the Marco Pierre White restaurant to retain its Victorian heritage whilst including contemporary elements that are in keeping with its future use and we also made recommendations relating the acoustics in the chamber. The muted colour scheme in light grey, dark grey and taupe as well as the furniture and furnishing specifications are in line with the brand package for Marcos restaurant chain also developed by Luci Living Design.

Speaking of the Durham restaurant, Marco “When you create a restaurant in a listed building you have to take into consideration the past and the natural beauty of the building. It’s all about the impact for the diners, and when you walk through the doors of the restaurant you feel the magic, in the tiles, the soft furnishings and the glamour of the building itself.”
